I know there’s like tonnes of brushes out there with almost every makeup brand selling a variety of brush sets. Truth is you don’t need all the brushes in the works to get a beautiful, well blended, flawless makeup look. You may own a couple of brushes and with them only you may be able to pull a full glam. Not every makeup artist I know uses brushes or love to use them some prefer using other tools like a beauty blender while others prefer using their fingers. I mean to each their own. But am here to help you especially if you already own several makeup brushes and they’re just sitting on your vanity because you are not sure how to use them or maybe you just find it overwhelming that it’s too many brushes and too much to learn that you can’t be asked.

So I took a trip down to my favourite mall – @bradfordbroadway just to like show you what you might find in stores and all when it comes to brushes. There are mainly 2 types of brushes in the makeup world – natural ones made from animal hair and synthetic ones made from materials like nylon and polyester. Natural brushes are more expensive compared to synthetic ones as it takes a lot to source and hand craft the hairs. They are also good when it comes to picking and placing of powder makeup such as eyeshadows, bronzers etc. They can be quite hard to blend for a beginner but when you get used to it you find it blends out to a beautiful, natural finish. They are also more durable that is long lasting compared to Synthetic brushes.

On the other hand synthetic brushes are great to use with liquid or cream products, such as foundation and concealer, because they won’t trap makeup. Synthetic bristles tend to gravitate towards one another, making them perfect for precision application.

Most people I know prefer synthetic brushes especially because they are cruelty free, affordable and easy to blend. It doesn’t matter if they don’t last long because heyyy we all know nothing lasts forever no matter how good it is but because these brushes are affordable they can be easily replaced. At the end of the day it’s upto you, what you think will work for you and what you think your pockets are cool with.

Personally I own several synthetic brushes and I thought would be a good idea to show you how I use some of them and give you a rough idea of what brush you could use for what however you should bare in mind that a brush may have multiple purposes and just because you may not have some brushes doesn’t mean you can’t achieve the look you going for. I actually once upon a time used to use just one kabuki brush for all my skin/base makeup and just one blending brush for my eye makeup so hey don’t feel like you can’t do it too if you are in that position.

The brushes am gonna use for this demo are Amarah Fashion Malkia brushes .. from the Malkia meaning Queen collection. It’s a 15 piece brush set so definitely more than enough brushes I need to pull a look. Unfortunately I only did my face makeup and not my eyes because I wasn’t feeling well on this particular day and I was also running out of time but I’ll show you the eye brushes and try to explain to you what you can use them for.

Hope you find this video useful. Feel free to leave a comment or ask any questions you may have.
